About Harold Bonacquist
I am a retired lawyer and Foreign Service Officer. My wife bought me my first digital camera in 2000, to record our adventures overseas. (I have served in Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, the Philippines and Iraq.) For several years, my work focused on travel and landscape photography. Over time, I increasingly turned my attention to other aspects of fine art photography. Much of my work is just a tad quirky or offbeat -- and some of it is a whole lot quirky and offbeat. I want it to surprise, entertain, amuse and engage the viewer. I hope you'll like it, of course, but even if you hate it, as long as you aren't bored by it I'll be satisfied. I do work in a variety of styles, so if you don't like what you see in one gallery, keep looking -- you'll probably find something you like elsewhere.
Of the various awards I have received, the one of which I am most proud was the Best in Show received in November 2012 in the joint Department of Defense/ Department of State competition, "Serving Abroad … Through Their Eyes." My entry, "American Cemetery," is part of the permanent collection at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.
